Accessibility
Everyone should be able to read Arlene’s work, whatever device or assistive technology they use. If something on this site gets in your way, please tell us.

Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the most widely used standard for accessible websites.
Conformance status
This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA: it was built to the standard, but some parts may not fully meet it yet. It hasn’t had a formal, independent audit; we are testing it with keyboards, screen readers, and zoom, and fixing what we find.
What we’ve done
- Keyboard access. Links, buttons, and form fields work with a keyboard and show a clear focus outline. A “Skip to content” link is at the top of every page.
- Clear structure. Pages use real headings, landmarks, and labeled form fields, so screen readers can move through them easily.
- Readable text. A generous default text size, text colors chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast, and layouts designed to adapt to small screens and browser zoom.
- Images. Book covers and photos have text descriptions; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Calm reading. Sample chapters are set in a single, uncluttered column with large type. There are no ads, no autoplaying audio or video, and no time limits.
- Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off smooth scrolling.
- Cookie notice. It doesn’t block the page and closes with a single button.
Known limitations
- Websites we link to, such as Amazon, Goodreads, and LinkedIn, are outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
Technical details
The site relies on HTML, CSS, and WAI-ARIA, with a small amount of JavaScript, and is designed to work with current browsers and assistive technologies. This statement is based on our own review of the site.
